Bye Bye Paula

I had discovered some very disheartening news today.  Paula Abdul from American Idol will not be returning for a 9th season.  Boo hoo!  All the American Idol jokes are lost without Paula!  Her complete optimism in every contestant made the show lots of fun to watch.  I'm completely and utterly that neither the show nor Paula could come to an agreement on the contract.  Well, farewell Paula. It was fun while it lasted.  Hopefully you don't drop into obscurity as most other celebrities do when they leave a franchise.  Maybe join So You Think You Can Dance?

Funny People

I got to see Funny People last night with very high expectations.  Although I wouldn't say I was disappointed, there was a sense of un-fulfillment.  There were many great one liners and at times I was literally laughing to hard to hear the next joke.  However, it felt like the funny parts were the only good parts of the movie.  The story line was hallow and left unadventured.  The characters were very flawed and the character development never really took off.  There was a serious lack of closure in the last 10 minutes of the movie which left me saying what just happened?  However, I will say it is a good flick but it definitely isn't one of Apatow's better works.  It might have been a better stand up movie than a funny movie trying to add a flawed plot.

I say don't see it in theaters.  Wait for someone you know to let you borrow the dvd.

Bottom line 5/10

Michael Phelps is a Sore Loser

A day after losing the 200 meter free to Paul Biedermann of Germany, Michael Phelps has begun to make excuses for his loss. Most of the other swimmers including Biedermann have a new more advanced swimsuit that supposedly makes a big difference. Since Phelps is sponsored by Speedo, and the do not produce this suit he was not able to wear it. Phelps states this as the reason for his defeat. Phelps needs to take this defeat like a man and not make excuses, and if he is going to complain to anyone it should be to Speedo. They are the ones who need to keep up with the competition, if there suits are worse than Michael Phelps does worse. Phelps is truly amazing but he needs to take his defeats like a man, and not point the finger at someone else.

Parks and Recreation

Ok, while this show follows the mockumentary style of the Office, it's not as funny.  However, it definitely has a little charm.  Amy Poehler has a lot of difficultly carrying a lead role, a problem that comes from a lot of her work.  Her lead roles is a semi cheap knock off of Steve Carrol's character.  There were a few funny lines and it does has a lot of true moments about local government.  I say if your bored and nothing is on tv, try it out.  It's also available on nbc.com for full episode viewing.  I will say that I started watching this show because I'm a huge fan of Rashida Jones...

Enter at Your Own Risk

I am Back!

So yeah I have not written for a while, but good news everyone I am back! I have been a major slacker recently, but here I am. One thing that has been in the sporting news recently is the fact that Tim Tebow was not unanimously the All-SEC preseason quarterback. Steve Spurrier admits that he was the one who left Tebow off of the ballot, but states that it was not intentional and he has nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for Tebow. Spurrier has now changed his vote to make it unanimous. However, people are upset at Spurrier thinking that the apology is not sincere. I believe Spurrier is truly sorry for the mistake of not putting Tebow on the ballot, but I also believe that this is not an issue at all! A preseason All-SEC team will have no impact on Tebow's legacy, or how he is going to play this year. Spurrier does not even need to apologize since he really has not done anything wrong. Yes Tebow is a great player, and yes he deserves this spot, but we do not need all these media people making a big deal out of this when it holds no importance. So glad to be back here in smith's backroom and I am going to try to keep posting on a more regular basis.

Something Different

In the wake of realization that my co-blogger is MIA... maybe he just doesn't want to write anymore?  Instead of the usual boom headshot post I do on Wednesdays, I decided to tap into my consciousness.  Although everyone knows I hate a real cliche, just hear me out.  Recently I was just lying in my bed.  Lying there thinking about nothing but everything.  In reality I was just trying to fall asleep, but my brian wouldn't let me sleep in peace.  I kept thinking about events that have past and many what if situations.  I also started to think heavily about things I've done, proud and disappointed with.  I never really think about these things on a daily basis.  What really sucks is when all the guilt and disappointment settles in.  There's nothing specific but there's waves of sadness that really make me think.  But with those shots of negativity come more positive memories which puts a slight smile on my face.  I really don't know how to describe this other than my pondering time.  I guess I wanted to write it down to make it more real.  During my daily tasks of working, sleeping, eating, seeing friends, I don't experience this.  It's forgotten in the crevices in the back of my mind.  It always suddenly hits me when I least expect it.  I guess by writing this in a blog for everyone to see I really yearn for connection of these emotions.  Is this out of place? I don't know. What I do know is that I least its been said and in my mind thats a step towards realization.

Review: Brooke White- High Hopes & Heartbreaks

I definitely had some high hopes for this American Idol alum.  Since this album came out the same week as Daughtry, I decided to wait to listen to it cause I didn't want to have Idol fever.  I probably didn't have to wait though cause I LOVE BROOKE WHITE.  I was a somewhat moderate fan while she was on the show but in her album she really shows her talent.  While her voice restricts her to mostly pop/ballad type songs, she really knocks them out of the park with catchy melodies and memorable lyrics.  Right in the middle, she sticks in her cover of Use Somebody by the Kings of Leon, a band a recently reviewed.  I LOVED her interpretation and she really did a great job covering it.  I think Brooke deservers a chance to be listened to and some radio air time!  I had High Hopes for this album and they were filled to the brim.

Bottom Line: 8/10

Songs to listen to: Radio Radio, Use Somebody, California Song

Review: Daughtry- Leave This Town

Ok, some of you might know this but for those of you who don't, I'm a HUGE American Idol fan.  Daughtry from season 5 has always been one of my favorite alum.  His first alum (self titled) was amazing.  With huge hits like It's Not Over and Feels Like Tonight made me really excited when I heard his sophomore album was coming out soon.  This past Tuesday I downloaded the album and was amazed.  While not all over the tracks are as catchy and have a distinct melody like his first album, Daughtry's second album definitely delivers.  He clearly has a lot more edge and he's voice has the amazing rock tone that I love.

Solid effort by Chris Daughtry!

Bottom Line: 7.5/10

Songs to listen to: You Don't Belong, Life After You

Review: Kings of Leon- Only By The Night

Ok so this album came out in 2008 but I recently discovered this band through a friend.  I have to say the previews on itunes didn't do too much for me but I trusted my friend's opinion.  After listening to the album all the way through I didn't realized that I had listened to all 13 tracks.  I couldn't believe how great this album was.  It was the kind of garage rock that hasn't really been played since the 80's.  My personal favorite aspect is the way the instruments melded together.  The bassist, while not the best, threw down some great rifts and solos.  My favorite new find of the moment!  Give it a listen to, it'll be an experience you'll definitely enjoy.

Bottom Line: 9.5/10

Songs to listen to: Manhattan, Use Somebody

Money Money Money (is what college kids like)

Two college football players have just filed lawsuits against EA sports for their game, NCAA Football 10.  This is due to the lack of royalties being paid to the players for using their likeness.  Ok so their name isn't on the jersey but we can download the names in a patch.  These students want their hard deserved money.  I say screw you.  You have the honor of playing at a prestigious enough school to be featured in a video game.  If you were really good enough, you should be worrying about playing in the NFL were you really make the big bucks.  College isn't a place were money is made.  Learn to play the game and if you're lucky enough, maybe you can leave a little bit early and enter the draft.  I say JEERS to these assholes.  Jocks usually stick to their stereotype and these guys clearly fill the role.

Bruno Review

I wanted to take a few days to think about what I saw before I passed any judgement.  I loved Borat when I first saw it and I still love it to this day.  Sacha Baron Cohen's older work has given me a good amount of laughter as well.  Thus, I was really excited to see it.  So excited that I got caught up in the craze and franchise without really fairly judging the film.  I thought that the idea was great and the situations were hilarious, but the execution was very poor.  The lame attempts to make this a story type movie like Borat fail miserably.  The whole concept is fairly ludicrous.  But besides the failures of the final product, I really enjoyed myself with many of the scenes.  I say this is a give or take kind of film and it definitely isn't a must seen in theaters kind of movie.

Overall I give Bruno a 6/10 for a great effort and some nice cheap laughs.

Ukraine Doesn't Know What Porn Is

Ok so I just found out Ukraine just passed some fancy legislation that banned the possession of porn in the country.  However, Ukraine defines porn like almost all other general definitions.

"Pornography is vulgar, candid, cynical, obscene depiction of sexual acts, pursuing no other goal, the explicit demonstration of genitals, unethical elements of the sexual act, sexual perversions, realistic sketches that do not meet moral criteria and offend honor and dignity of the human by inciting low instincts."

So I came to the conclusion that a book can have pornographic intentions because it can be vulgar.  Let's take art into consideration.  What do we do with the Statue of David? Burn the mothafucka in Ukraine?!! Well, I think Ukraine is sorely trying to start giving people moral guide, however the morals are kind of mandatory.  JEERS to Ukraine for essentially banning free expression (or at least some privacy)! Anyway, don't bring any porn into the Ukraine cause you'll be arrested.  Yes I know that was the top of your list of things to do, but let's think of something else to do.

Truly the Best

Today Roger Federer had an amazing championship match against Andy Roddick.  I went in thinking this match was an easy win for Federer, but Roddick really proved me wrong.  5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14 was the score of the match.  Federer broke the record for most games played in the 5th set.  He also had a personal record number of aces with over 50.  Roddick showed true heart while playing this match only broken once during the entire time.  He didn't allow history to happen with any ease.  Federer winning his 6th Wimbledon title puts him at an all time career grandslam record of 15.  I wrote my first post around a month ago congratulating his historic 14th tie with Pete Sampras.  However, this will be a match I'll remember forever because of the heart both players showed and was the undeniable proof that Federer is the greatest of all time.  Congrats Federer, this is your era.

4th of July = LOTS OF HOTDOGS

Today was Coney Island's annual hot dog eating contest.  We all love watching these people eat enormous amounts of hot dogs.   It's even a sport because it's on espn!  For me, it's one of my favorite things about the 4th of July besides bbqs and fireworks.  This year's winner was defending champion Joey Chestnut with a world record 68 hot dogs.  Too bad 6 time winner Kobayashi, your reign of eating is over!  I don't think I've ever eaten that many in a single year.  But it still amazes me how enamored we all get when this contest is held.  Good for American society for caring about things that really matter.

GIMME THAT SONG!

Have you ever saw a music video on youtube and really wanted to download the song but couldn't find it?  I recently just found a way for everyone (yes that means you too pc users) to download mp3 files right off the youtube video of your choice.  I really wanted the song Thug Story which I covered a week back.  I couldn't find it on itunes or other sites to download.  Thus I started to search for techniques to remove the mp3 file from the video.
Ok so you obviously want to know what the site is right?
It's   fetchmp3.com

Another question comes into mind is "is this legal?"
I looked it up and absolutely! Stripping videos from youtube is STILL LEGAL (for the time being).

Download away from friends!

This one HAS to hurt.

The Best Job in the World is Still a Job

Finally, something worth talking about.  Many people knew about the best job in the world campaign back in January.  If you don't, let me refresh your memory.  For 6 months, Britain Island near Australia was looking for someone to write about and post videos of his experience while living on the island.  The caretaker get 150,000 Australian dollars to boot as well. For all of you who say "ah shucks I missed a great opportunity!" you might be in luck.  Winner, Briton Southall is saying it's more of a job than you think.  He has to do daily work to make sure the place is kept up in tip top shape.  There's no maid, no food service, and absolutely no butler.  While this would seem like a dream vacation to some, it has it's small print.  I still hope Briton enjoys this employment for the next 6 months because he's definitely living the nice life in a tropical island.

BOOM!!!! HEADSHOT! 6/24/09

Here it is boys and girls... ENJOY!!

USA! USA! USA!

Today for only the second time in history the USA men's soccer team beat a FIFA number 1 ranked team. Facing the Spanish national team the USA took the win with goals by Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey. Tim Howard helped out with a clean sheet in goal, making a numerous amount of great saves. Watching this game USA looked clearly outmatched having a less percentage of possession and shot opportunities, but they played great defense, capitalized on their opportunities, and came away with the victory. Spain had a record tying 35 game unbeaten streak before USA won this match. USA will be advancing to the Confederation Cup finals for the first time in team history. A great win for USA soccer, and this shows they are a legitimate contender even if the country does not recognize them as such.

I Would Be Censored In China

The Chinese government has just made it mandatory for all internet users in China to download a software called Green Dam-Youth Escort Software.  This software, while sounds relatively harmless, infringes many rights of the individual.  It essentially is suppose to block harmful pornography from the baring eyes of helpless children.  However at the same time, it censors potentially harmful political information or other resources that the regime considers dangerous. It doesn't stop at the internet however, it also attacks your other software.  If you are typing illicit words in your word processor, it will close the application out.  Sounds wrong right?  Cause it is! It is our natural right to choose what we say and view!  The Chinese need to fight for their rights.  Rise up and fight big brother!

She Ignored Me Too!

Megan Fox has been under a lot of fire lately because she ignored the advances of a "young" boy.  He was holding out a yellow rose to her during one of her premiers.  Unsurprisingly, she didn't take it.  She claims that she didn't see him (which can be totally possible) but it's more than likely that she didn't want to interact with the boy.  I mean look at him, he's no Brad Pitt.  If it was me, she probably would have ignored me too.  JEERS to the media for making something that doesn't matter, matter!

Who's Glove(r) Is This?

Today concluded the US Open at Bethpage Black.  Keeping 2 strokes over Phil Mickelson, David Duval, and Ricky Barnes.  Congrats to Lucas Glover.  I have no idea who you are.  I mean I partially blame myself because I don't follow golf that much, but I'm really use to seeing Tiger wins another title as a headline.  Does Tiger keep pro golfers into a lot of obscurity?  Maybe but that's for another discussion.  All I have to say is that maybe I should know Glover but I definitely don't know who he is.

Taylor Swift is Gangsta

Ok as I wrote the title I was thinking to myself I can't take this post seriously.  Yet I am cause country sensation Taylor Swift has a duet with one of my favorite rappers T-Pain.  Yes, T-Pain is singing another hilarious song with a pop icon!

The song is called Thug Story by Taylor Swift ft. T-Pain

The Games Get Easier

In a recent interview with Nintendo Designer Shigeru Miyamato, he described a feature in the new upcoming Mario game that allows players to pause the game and let the game play itself through if there are parts the player can not do.  Ok... that's cool but that's really low.  How about all those guys who beat the first Super Mario without losing a life? How about the final mission in GTA without any cheat codes?  Getting the achievements by yourself is like a tiny holy grail in a game.  This feature defiles the gaming culture by allowing players just to fastfoward through the game.  I don't care if this is to broaden the potential audience, this is a slap to the face to true gamers.  JEERS to Nintendo for inventing this.

BOOM!!!! HEADSHOT! 6/17/09

Here's this week's BOOM! HEADSHOT! Enjoy like you enjoy a piece of pie.

The Naughty List

Recently, as we know, Sammy Sosa has been confirmed to have been on the list proving he used performance enhancing drugs in 2003. This same list was how Arod was found to have used the abandoned substances. Yes they cheated, but the fact that this came out like this is in my mind disgusting. This test was taken by the players with the promise of anonymity, and this promise has not been upheld. The people disclosing this information are just as bad as the players on it, they are cheaters. That being said now that they have started releasing this list the other 102 players on the list must be revealed as well for two reasons. First it is not fair to have some people exposed and taking all the blame when there are over a hundred others who are just as responsible. And second is to hopefully rescue players. Many are being blamed for taking drugs without proof of such (recently Raul Ibanez had been accused). This list will clarify for the public who indeed performed the way they did through hard work and training, and who in fact cheated to move ahead in the game.

Wow Farnsworth!

Kansas City Royals relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth has another injury to add to his huge list.  He tried to break up his bickering dogs and got bit on his non-pitching left hand.  I say good job Farsworth (pitching for the New York Yankees in 2007 and 2008 ughhh).  He actually managed not to start the fight himself this time.  Now how does it feel to be on the other side of the fights?

Picture above was in 2005 when Farnsworth got into a scuffle with Royals pitcher Jeremy Affedlt. Farnsworth can barely be seen cause he's the one doing the tackling.

Let's Fly For Free!

Today British Airways asked its employees to work without pay.  British Airways reported the biggest loss in revenue since 1987 when the company became privatized.  BA chief Willie Walsh urged his workers to follow suit with him to take a pay dock.  Well, unlike you Walsh, most of your employees can't afford to go without pay.  Jeers to British Airways to making its loyal employees go hungry and potentially lose a job in the future.  I say let the Airways be controlled by one company... it would be so much more profitable.

Roid Rage

Ok, whether or not Sammy Sosa did performance enhancing drugs (he did though), I'm sick of hearing about it.  Like Favre's return and Clemen's hearings, I just don't care anymore.  We all suspected the man at one point of doing the drug.  Even though the 2003 report was supposedly sealed and results secret, there was another leak.  Ok cool, now lets move on.  This is an era of performance enhanced athletes.  He is among many who have used them.  McQuire, he's home run rival was also performance enhancing drug user.  Let's move on I say.  Yes we will have to worry if his records really stand and if he deserves to be in the hall of fame.  But in the era of steroid users, he isn't alone.  I say end the conversation and let's play ball.

PS Enjoy a picture from the corked bat scandal.

Abercrombie is a Bitch!

Riam Dean, an employee with a disability, was banished to the storeroom.  You may as was the disability refraining her from doing her job? No.  She has a prosthetic arm and was fully capable of handling the floor.  The reason for banishment? She didn't fit the "look policy".
I say JEERS to Abercrombie and Fitch for trying to set awful standards for society.   Riam is a clearly attractive girl as it is (shown above).  However to be saying people with disabilities can't "look good" in society is going a little to far.  I say never again Abercrombie.  Hey preps go be less egotistical and shop at the GAP.

A great find tonight was another blogger who drew pictures of what other people (real and fictional) would look like in the Simpson world.  I loved this blog and really enjoyed looking at my favorite lost characters Simpsonfied.

Andddd Down He Goes

Jim Calhoun, famous UConn Men's Basketball coach, was hospitalized today after falling down during a 50 mile bike charity event.  He suddenly collapsed and fell with 16 miles left to go, breaking five ribs.  Who knew biking was such a dangerous sport.  I always believed Thabeet would tackle Calhoun giving the coach a season ending injury because of a loose ball.  Although I’m not a huge fan of Calhoun, I feel kinda bad for the guy.  Maybe we should keep cycling to the professionals…. Lance Armstrong anyone?

Its a Bird, Its a Plane, Its Superman!

Yes, the Orlando Magic lost Game 3 of the NBA Finals. And yes, the Lakers have now, in almost all likelihood, won the NBA championship. However, what really caught my eye in Game 3 of the NBA Finals was Dight “Superman” Howard. It was not his offensive production, with only 16 points, and not his rebounding total although he had 21 of them in the game. What was really amazing was his NBA Finals record 9 blocks. When one thinks of the great big men of basketball, (Wilt Chamberlain, Hakeem Olajuwan, Patrick Ewing, Bill Walton, Shaquille O'Neal) you think dominant presence inside the pain. All of these greats played in the NBA finals but it is not any of them that holds the record for being the biggest presence in an NBA Finals game, Dwight Howard took that position Thursday night. Now Dwight Howard has looked utterly useless during a couple of points during these finals, but this game showed how dominant he can be, even when he is not scoring. Superman has a bright future ahead of him, and with Patrick Ewing as his mentor it is only a matter of time (if all goes to plan) until Dwight Howard establishes himself as one of the greatest big men in the history of the game.

Jokes Are Funny… Right? (Palin Doesn't Think So)

There has been uproar in the Palin camp about some jokes David Letterman told on his program.  He cracked at Governor Palin’s visit that she would have to fend of Elliot Spitzer from her daughter and that A-Rod knocked her daughter up in the 7th inning.  While these jokes are slightly questionable, they were just jokes.  Palin thought Letterman was talking about her 14 year old daughter.  Now this was a complete miscommunication and Letterman does an excellent job in apologizing.  I say while he did smudge the line, he had done this thousands of times in the past.  These are jokes and they are meant to gather cheap laughs.

I say CHEERS to Letterman in trying to fight for the right of comedy and saying a lot of people are overly sensitive.

Girl Next Door Becomes Mommy at Home

Kendra Wilkinson from hit reality tv show, The Girls Next Door, is expecting a child with fiancé, Hank Baskett.  She had recently broken up the Mr. Hugh Heffner making me very sad because that meant the end of one of my favorite reality tv shows.  I always thought there could be a respark in the relationship however it doesn’t look so now.  Kendra can now be seen on her own spinoff reality show, Kendra. Congratulations on your pregnancy Kendra!

I’m Slightly Biased...

I posted about the new iPhone 3GS a few days ago and I totally neglected to mention the release of the Palm Pre.  This new phone by Palm has the ability to match the capabilities of the iPhone.  Now while most of my information is from magazines and online articles, I can say with a lot of confidence that this new phone is pretty good.  The touch screen features are really responsive and they solved the iPhone’s clunky touch screen keypad by adding in a physical one.  It also hosts all the same online and application abilities the iPhone does.  So if you aren’t an Apple fanatic, I would definitely take this phone for a test drive cause I know I want to get my hands on one as soon as I can.

BOOM!!!! HEADSHOT!

Ryan and I have always had a saying BOOM! HEADSHOT! whenever someone owned at something or got owned.  Obviously seeing someone getting owned is much better.  I shall be heading up a weekly BOOM!!!! HEADSHOT! section.  Every week I will try to find a video or photo of people getting absolutely owned.  This may or may not be a headshot but it sure will be funny to see someone getting own.

If you find great additions for this article please send them in to nick.law478@gmail.com.  You will be heavily credited for your find.

Black Eyed Peas – The E.N.D (The Energy Never Ends)

After waiting for 4 years for the Black Eyed Peas to follow up hit R&B album Monkey Business, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the new album.  However as I started to listen through the album I was sorely surprised.  This new sound sounded like club music at the best.  The first single off the album Boom Boom Pow didn’t have pizzazz as Let’s Get Retarded or Where’s the Love.  The album didn’t flow as well as previous albums.  I was sorely disappointed with the album on the whole.  This was definitely a great departure from the Black Eyed Peas I once knew.  I hope this isn’t the end because the energy definitely left.

Songs of notice: Party All the Time, I Gotta Feeling

Bottom Line: 5/10

Do You Believe in Magic?

After winning game 3 of the NBA Finals the Orlando Magic are back in the series, however things do not look good for "Superman" Dwight Howard and Company. Besides the fact that only three teams have ever came back from an 0-2 deficit to win the championship, there seems to be other things working against them. In Game 3 the Orlando Magic shot a record 62.5 % from the field. Even with this outstanding shooting performance, the Magic only won by 4 points. This is not a good sign for any Orlando fan. If your team is putting up record numbers and just barely coming away with a victory I would be afraid. The Magic are a good shooting team but they will not be able to keep up shooting with those types of numbers. Lakers defense and Phil Jackson are not going to let them shoot with that type of accuracy two games in a row. When the shooting percentage starts to drop, the Magic need Dwight Howard to be more aggressive inside, which he is yet to really show in this series. Look for the Lakers to come back in Game 4 and take a 3-1 series lead even if the Orlando Magic have the homecourt advantage.

Spiderman 4: Let’s Not Ruin the Series

Spiderman 4 has been confirmed to be released in May 2011… that’s a long ways away.  Thanks goodness because I’m still shivering after seeing the last one.  Hopefully producer Todd Black will have decided to do something more with the series than make stupid ambiguous references.

The only thing I’m the most excited about is who can potentially be the villain.  I want to see a Kingpin/Catwoman appearance because of the affect these characters have on the society of New York City.  Another potential villain is the Lizard, alter ego of Dr. Connors, who has already been in two of the other films.  There’s also Kraven the hunter, Mysterio, Carnage, Hobgoblin, or the Rhino.  The list is pretty big.  Hopefully this movie won’t be as god awful as the last one.

Mad Dream?!

Adam Lambert, runner up of American Idol Season 8, has confirmed his sexuality in the new issues of Rolling Stones.  He is gay.  In case you were wondering.  For those who have continually said he was, congrats you were right.  Now shut up.  We can finally get away from all the speculation and banter of this subject.  Let’s talk about his music instead of who he has sex with (although sex is very interesting usually).  Hopefully this doesn’t overshadow his amazing talent as a vocalist.

Cheers to Adam for trying to make news about himself about his music not his sexuality... hopefully this ends all the stupid news.

Turn Back While You Still Can!!

The most recent news in the Brett Favre saga is that apparently the Minnesota Vikings have set a deadline for Brett Favre to state whether he is going to play for Minnesota this coming season or not. By the end of the week Favre will need to have come to a decision or it will be made for him. Favre should not return!! I repeat do not return!! I thought the same thing last year when he went to the Jets. He did not have a horrible year last year, but he is ruining a legacy that he has worked hard to establish. One of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and a Packer for life. Playing for the Jets has already tarnished that but if he chooses to play for a team that is in the Packers conference, (and therefore rivals) he is still a great quarterback but it does damage to his reputation. Favre has worked hard to establish a sense of respect, and he should retire now before he permanently tarnishes his name, his team, and his legacy.

The Great Debate REVISTED BY THE LAW

Sorry to disagree with my co-writer so early in our career but I have to say that the debate was over when Lebron won the MVP award this year.  Lebron had proven himself as the best player in the league through multiple achievements this year.  The Cavs having the best record in the NBA and only 2 losses at home during the regular season is something to brag about.  1 of those losses was when Lebron wasn’t playing so I don’t even count that one.  However just because Lebron lost in the playoffs doesn’t mean he isn’t the best player of the league.  During the Cavs series against the Magic, Lebron showed up but his teammates didn’t.  When Lebron scored more than 40 points in the game his team lost the game.  Doesn’t that seem a little fishy?  I say Lebron lived up to his name, his supporting cast did not live up to champion standards.  We can’t expect big Z or Varejo to compete with Superman and guess what, they didn’t.  Kobe on the other hand is in the finals due to his amazing supporting cast.  3 big men Odom, Gasol, and Bynum all are great inside forces.  Kobe also has a lot of experience and talent in the guards with Ariza and Fisher.  I still say Lebron was the MVP of 2009.  Kobe is good, but he has more talented teammates.

Woah Colbert!

Tonight at 11:30 pm on Comedy Central Steven Colbert is taking a trip to Iraq.  He is currently filming 4 episodes over the next 4 days in Iraq.  I say kudos to Colbert on his effort to prove that even mock news can have great validity.  He even shaved his head in support of the United States army!!  Support the funnyman by watching the Colbert Report at 11:30 pm this Monday through Thursday.

Cheers to Colbert this week!

The Great Debate

Throughout the NBA season there has been a debate on who is the best player in the National Basketball Association. Two sides have developed, one fan base in support of Kobe Bryant, the Black Mamba, while the other for Lebron James. Even Nike took part creating a line of commercials featuring puppets of both players arguing their case. And each one does have a strong case for being known as the best. Kobe Bryant won MVP in the 2008 season and Jerry West named him the best closer in the game. While Lebron James took home the 2009 MVP award and posts triple-doubles on an incredibly frequent basis. So the question remains who truly is the greatest player in the NBA? While NBA fanatics were getting giddy at the thought of a Kobe Lebron duel for the title in the NBA finals, Superman Dwight Howard and the Magic had other plans knocking the Cavs out in the Eastern Conference finals. This defeat in my mind settles the debate for the time being, because for me at least one needs to win in order to be great. Nothing against Lebron, he was phenomenal in his series, but to be the best you need to win and Lebron fell short in that aspect. Who knows if the Magic win the series, than once again Kobe and Lebron are on equal playing grounds, but with the Lakers up 2-0 and Kobe looking unstoppable this debate seems to have ended for the time being.

Whipped Into Shape

Whip cream pies are the symbol of the New York Yankees this season. Why whip cream pies? Because whenever the Yankees get a walk off win pitcher A.J. Burnett pies the “hero” of the game while they are being interviewed about their late inning heroics. These heroics are not a rare occurrence to the Yankees either. The signature of the Yankees this year have been the comeback victories. They have had a major league leading 20 come from behind victories. For a Yankees fan it is has been a great season to watch, and this season seems to represent the Yankees as a whole. The Yankees had a terrible year last year, missing the playoffs for the first time in thirteen years. This was new to the Yankees and to their fans, and trust me it was painful not seeing the pinstripes in October. Prior to this season I was reading an article on ESPN where experts took questions from fans around the world. There was one in particular that summed up the performance of the Yankees last season:

“I am a Blue Jays fan and I was wondering what it would take for the Jays to win the Al East above the Red Sox and the Rays (I am not scared of the Yankees at all this season)?”

Reading this I was disgusted, the New York Yankees had lost a lot of respect from that season, and I myself was not sure if we would be able to return to the top this season, where Yankees and their fans are used to being. And then the season started and things did not look to be any better. First week of the season the Yankees get destroyed by the Cleveland Indians 22-4, and it seemed it would be another season of disappointment. However, the Yankees started to do what they seem to keep on doing, they made a comeback. The players made comeback performances (Mark Teixeira had a horrible May and is now one of the hottest players in the league, Melky Cabrera was unable to hit anything last season and is now one of the most clutch performers in baseball) comebacks from injuries (Hideki Matsui, Alex Rodriguez, Jorge Posada), and comeback victories. This Yankees team is resilient, they never let up, and because of this are able to come back no matter the deficit or challenge in front of them. They are now ahead in the American League East, with the best record in the entire American League. Now when the Yankees are down in a game I don't lose faith, because I know that there is a good chance that someone from the Yankees will be getting a whip cream pie in their face at the end of the day.
